Audio Marketing: An Evolving and Growing Medium

Did you know that Wheaties cereal launched audio marketing as we know it today? A sing-song jingle on the airwaves and voila, the rest is history.

Back in those days, it was much simpler to plan an audio marketing campaign. There was only one primary method for audio: radio.

Since then, the audio landscape has dramatically changed. While there may have been a minute when many thought audio might be dying out, the numbers today tell a dramatically different story.

  • Over 200 million Americans still listen to the radio.
  • 55% of the U.S. population has listened to a podcast at least once and Spotify and Apple Podcasts are pushing hard for continued growth as they battle for the most listeners.
  • In the last year alone, the latest trend in social media, the audio-only Clubhouse, has grown exponentially from 270 daily active users in May 2020 to 10 million+ today.

What does this mean for marketers or business owners? The first thing is to know what the benefits of audio are and why it’s worth your time both now and in the coming years.
