Search Engine Strategies @ NYC

best of the web

Guess what was in this mug, and win some link love!

It seems like I’ve been going to SES in the city forever, but it’s probably only been 5 or 6 years in a row. This year, I registered for a last-minute exhibit hall pass, and walked the floors. Noticeably smaller than even last year, the companies there were all real businesses. I kind of miss the days and years past when you had online casinos, affiliate programs and every other “experimental” dot-com you could find all trying to fit under the search engine umbrella.

If I were to recap the event, it was all about local. I stopped and spoke with 15Miles.com, LocalSplash.com, Local.com and all were anxious to compare what they had, and what the others didn’t. It was refreshing to see such passion in what they do!

I spoke with the crew at Onward Search (hey Chris!), and got to meet not only Editor-in-Chief Peter Prestipino, but Mr. SEO Corner himself, Dante Monteverde, both from Website Magazine. While at their booth, I also converted two of my business associates into full-fledged, paying subscribers!

I also chatted up the crew from Full Sail University. Their 12-month M.S. in Internet Marketing is spot-on with its curriculum.

Even John Dozier, author of “Google Bomb” was there – sorry I didn’t get to shake your hand, as I really enjoyed your book.

I wrapped up the conference floor tour with a 2nd visit to the Best of the Web booth. Ever present in their black, long-sleeved tees, Robert had promised me something special if I came back to the booth. I was not disappointed!
